The Silver Economy Awards Scheme receives moral patronage from Commissioner Mariya Gabriel

We are honoured to announce that the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, becomes a patron of the Silver Economy Awards Scheme.

The acknowledgment of the Silver Economy as a comprehensive political and economic paradigm holds the promise to benefit older people themselves, the public welfare systems and the private economy as well. It leverages the innovation potential brought about by the digital transformation of economy and life in order to reduce public spending, boost business opportunities and make living environments (homes, neighbourhoods and working places) more comfortable, connected and safe for citizens as they age.

Thus, the official recognition and support of the Awards Scheme from the Commissioner is an important message supporting the development of a European Silver Economy movement and addressing demographic challenge under the aegis of the European Commission and in line with its mainstream growth and innovation policies.

The Commissioner will release a video message in support of the Awards Scheme that will be shared with the participants of the First European Silver Economy Awards Ceremony taking place on the 3rd of May 2018 in Brussels at the Committee of the Regions.
